The Instax Mini 12 makes credit-card-sized prints that develop in your hand in about 90 seconds. Twist the lens ring to switch it on, twist once more for close-up mode, and the camera picks exposure and flash strength itself. There are no dials to learn.

Close-up mode focuses from 30 to 50 cm and corrects the viewfinder for parallax, so selfies framed in the little mirror beside the lens actually land where you expected. Two AA batteries drive roughly 100 shots, about ten packs of film.

Questions & answers

Is film included?

No. instax mini film is sold separately in 10 and 20 exposure packs. A counter on the back of the camera shows how many shots are left in the loaded pack.

How do I load the film?

Open the back, drop in a full pack with the yellow mark lined up, then close it. The first shutter press ejects the black protective sheet, leaving ten exposures.

How do I take a good selfie with it?

Twist the lens ring out to close-up mode, hold the camera 30 to 50 cm away and line your face up in the mirror next to the lens. Parallax correction keeps the framing honest at that distance.

Can the flash be turned off?

No. The flash fires on every frame and the camera sets its strength automatically. That keeps subjects properly lit indoors but rules out available-light shots.

Which film sizes fit this camera?

Only instax mini. instax Square and instax Wide packs are physically larger and will not load into the Mini 12.
