The Vortex Plus is Instant's mainstream basket air fryer, and the ClearCook window is the reason to take it over the plain Vortex. A light behind the glass lets you watch fries brown without pulling the basket out and dropping the temperature every couple of minutes.

Six functions cover air fry, roast, broil, bake, reheat and dehydrate, run from a touchscreen with a 95 to 400 degree range. EvenCrisp drives hot air down over the food for a crisp top, and both the basket and the crisping tray go in the dishwasher afterwards.

How is the Vortex Plus different from the standard Vortex?

The Plus adds the ClearCook window with its internal light, the EvenCrisp airflow profile and two extra functions, broil and dehydrate. The base Vortex is a four-function fryer with a solid drawer front.

How much food actually fits in six quarts?

Roughly two pounds of fries in a single layer with room to shake, a whole four-pound chicken, or four chicken breasts. Crowding the basket is what turns air-fried food soggy, so leave gaps.

Does it need preheating?

It preheats automatically at the start of a program, which takes two to three minutes. You can skip it for reheating leftovers, but not for anything you want crisp.

Can the basket go in the dishwasher?

Yes, both the basket and the crisping tray are dishwasher safe. Hand washing with a soft sponge is still gentler on the nonstick coating if you use it daily.

Is it loud, and does it smell?

It runs at the level of a strong extractor fan. Cooking smells are normal for any air fryer; the stainless model adds OdorErase filters if that matters in an open-plan kitchen.
