The Flip has been JBL's default answer to a portable speaker for years, and the seventh version keeps the shape while changing what drives it. A 45 by 80 mm woofer handles the low end and a new 16 mm tweeter dome takes the treble, split 25 and 10 watts.

AI Sound Boost is the addition worth knowing about. It reads the track as it plays and pushes the driver harder where it can, which is how the speaker gets louder without the distortion that usually follows.

Rated IP68 for dust and water and tested for drops, it runs 14 hours, or 16 with Playtime Boost on.

Questions & answers

Is it worth upgrading from a Flip 6?

The main gains are the separate tweeter, AI Sound Boost, Auracast pairing and two extra hours of battery. If your Flip 6 still holds a charge, the sound difference is real but not dramatic.

Can I play music from a laptop over the USB-C port?

Yes. The USB-C port carries lossless digital audio as well as charging, so a laptop or phone can feed it directly without Bluetooth compression.

How many speakers can I link together?

Auracast connects the Flip 7 to other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers, and they all play the same source in sync. Two of them can also run as a stereo pair.

Does IP68 mean I can take it in the shower or the pool?

Showers and poolside use are fine, and it survives being submerged. Rinse chlorine or salt water off afterwards and let the USB-C port dry fully before charging.

What does Playtime Boost change?

It retunes the speaker for efficiency, adding roughly two hours of battery. Bass depth drops slightly in exchange, and you can turn it on and off in the JBL Portable app.
