The V15 Detect is Dyson's argument that a cordless stick can be your only vacuum. The Hyperdymium motor spins to 125,000 rpm for up to 240 air watts of suction, and fourteen concentric cyclones keep that suction steady as the 0.77-litre bin fills.

Two heads ship in the box. The Fluffy Optic head throws a green laser across hard floors at a low angle, which makes fine dust visible that you would otherwise walk past. The Digital Motorbar head has a de-tangling comb for carpet and pet hair. A piezo sensor counts particles and shows the tally on the LCD screen.

What does the laser on the Fluffy Optic head do?

It sits at a precise low angle so it rakes across the floor rather than shining down on it, which casts a shadow behind particles too small to notice under room light. It works on hard floors, not carpet.

Will it really run for 60 minutes?

Sixty minutes is Eco mode with a non-motorised tool. With the Digital Motorbar head on carpet expect closer to 30 to 40 minutes, and Boost mode drains the battery in around 10.

Do I have to buy bags or replacement filters?

No bags. The single filter is washable, and Dyson recommends rinsing it in cold water about once a month and drying it fully for 24 hours before refitting.

Can it be used as a handheld?

Yes. Remove the wand and clip the combination or crevice tool straight onto the body for stairs, car interiors and upholstery.

What are the numbers on the LCD screen?

The screen shows the current power mode, remaining run time counted down in seconds, and a live count of particles by size picked up by the acoustic piezo sensor in the bin inlet.
