The i.d. is the Airwrap generation that knows what it is doing. You set your hair type, length and the curl you want in the MyDyson app, and the machine runs that as a timed sequence, alternating curl direction and finishing with a cold shot to set the shape.

Everything that made the original work is intact. The Coanda effect wraps hair around the barrel with airflow rather than clamping it between hot plates, and airflow temperature is measured more than forty times a second so it never passes 302F.

Barrels, brushes and the Coanda smoothing dryer are all in the case.

What does the i.d. add over the earlier Airwrap?

Two things. The MyDyson app stores a curl routine matched to your hair type and length, and the machine recognizes which attachment you have fitted so it applies the right settings without you dialing them in.

Does it damage hair the way a curling iron can?

It styles mostly with airflow and caps airflow temperature at 302F, well below the plate temperature of a typical hot tool. Heat is still heat, so a heat protectant is still worth using.

Should my hair be wet or dry when I start?

Damp, not soaking. Rough-dry to around three-quarters dry first, then style. Hair that is too wet will not wrap cleanly, and hair that is fully dry will not hold the shape.

Can I use it without the app?

Yes. The heat and airflow buttons on the handle work on their own. The app is what saves a personalized curl sequence and steps you through it.

How do I keep it working properly?

Clean the filter regularly with the supplied brush. A clogged filter starves the motor of air, which shows up as weaker airflow and the machine cutting out mid-style.
