The Gen1 is the way into Dyson's purifying fans. It keeps the sealed HEPA H13 and activated carbon filtration of the pricier models and drops the app, the heater, and the formaldehyde sensor. Ten airflow speeds run from a whisper to a real breeze, so it earns its space as a summer fan as well as a year-round purifier.

Oscillation reaches 350 degrees, pushing filtered air across a room rather than at one chair. Night mode dims the display and holds the quieter speeds, and the magnetized remote stores on top of the loop.

Questions & answers

How is this different from the Dyson TP07 and TP09?

The filtration hardware is the same class: sealed HEPA H13 plus carbon. What Gen1 leaves out is Wi-Fi and MyDyson app control, the air quality sensors and on-screen readouts, and on the TP09 the formaldehyde-destroying catalytic filter.

You set speed and oscillation yourself instead of letting it react automatically.

Does it heat as well as cool?

No. This is the Cool model, so it filters and blows unheated room air. The Hot+Cool Gen1 HP10 is the version with a heater.

How often does the filter need replacing, and can I wash it?

Plan on a new HEPA and carbon cartridge roughly every 12 months of daily use. The machine counts filter hours and tells you.

The cartridge is not washable. You can vacuum the outer shroud gently, but the media itself has to be replaced.

Is it quiet enough to sleep next to?

At the low speeds most people run overnight it sits under 60 dB(A) and reads as broadband air noise rather than a rattle.

Night mode dims the screen and holds the fan at the quieter end, which is what it is there for.

What comes in the box?

The purifying fan with its HEPA and carbon cartridge already fitted, the magnetized remote, and the user guide. No filter subscription or app account is needed to run it.
