The V8 Plus is where Dyson's cordless line starts. A digital motor pushes 115 air watts through fifteen concentric cyclones, which covers everyday crumbs, dust and pet hair without the weight of the bigger machines. The whole thing comes in at 5.7 pounds.

The Motorbar head carries de-tangling vanes that strip long hair off the brush bar while it turns, so nothing needs cutting away afterwards. Two power modes handle normal cleaning and a short Max burst, and the wand pulls off to leave a handheld for stairs, upholstery and car seats.

Questions & answers

How is this different from the V15 Detect?

The V15 roughly doubles the suction at 240AW, runs to 60 minutes, adds whole-machine HEPA, the laser Fluffy Optic head and the LCD particle counter.

The V8 Plus is lighter and cheaper, and is the right choice for apartments, hard floors and short-rug homes rather than deep wall-to-wall carpet.

Will it really run for 40 minutes?

Forty minutes is the standard mode with a non-motorised tool fitted. With the Motorbar head on carpet expect somewhere around 20 to 25 minutes, and Max mode empties the battery in a few minutes.

Does it cope with pet hair?

Yes. The Motorbar head is the de-tangling one, so hair spirals off the brush bar into the airflow instead of winding around it. Long human hair is handled the same way.

Are there bags or filters to buy?

No bags. The filter is washable, and Dyson asks you to rinse it in cold water about once a month and let it dry fully for 24 hours before putting it back.

Does it come with a wall dock?

Yes. The docking station screws to the wall, holds the machine upright with a tool clipped alongside, and charges it while it hangs there.
