Product details

The Woodfire runs on a wall socket, not propane or charcoal, so heat is set on a dial and stays there. Wood still does the flavour work: half a cup of hardwood pellets smoulders in a side hopper while the element cooks.

Seven modes cover grilling, low-and-slow smoking, air crisping, baking, roasting, dehydrating and broiling. The 141 square inch grate takes six steaks or thirty hot dogs, and the whole thing weighs about 30 pounds, so it moves to a balcony or a campsite.

A good fit where a gas grill is impractical but you still want smoke.

Questions & answers

Does it need propane or charcoal?

Neither. It plugs into a standard outdoor outlet and draws 1,760 watts, which is close to the limit of a 15-amp circuit, so give it a socket that is not shared with other appliances. Pellets go in only for smoke flavour.

Can I use it on a covered balcony or indoors?

Outdoors only. It burns wood pellets and produces real smoke, so it needs open air and clearance from walls, railings and anything overhead, the same as any grill.

Which pellets can I use?

Ninja Woodfire pellets, which are cut smaller than heating pellets for a pellet smoker. Standard barbecue pellets are too large for the hopper and will not burn correctly in it.

How much smoke flavour does it actually give?

Noticeable, and strongest on longer cooks. A brisket or pork shoulder held at smoker temperatures for hours picks up far more than a ten-minute burger run, where the flavour is light.

How is it cleaned?

The grill grate, crisper basket and grease tray lift out and wash in the sink. Empty the pellet hopper of ash after each cook, and wipe the interior once it has cooled fully.
