Questions & answers

Does it run on battery?

No. It stays plugged in through its attached USB-C cable and the supplied 20W adapter. A high-output USB-C battery pack will run it away from a socket, but that is not an Apple feature.

Do I need an iPhone to use it?

Yes for setup, which runs from an iPhone or iPad signed into an Apple Account. Afterwards any device on the same network can AirPlay to it.

Can two make a stereo pair?

Yes, as long as both are HomePod minis in the same room. You cannot pair a mini with a full-size HomePod, and colours do not have to match.

How does it compare to the full-size HomePod?

The mini is clear and loud for its size, but it has one driver and no room sensing. The full-size model adds real low end and a wider stereo image for a living room.

Where does the temperature reading come from?

A sensor inside the speaker, surfaced in the Home app. Keep it clear of radiators, ovens and direct sun, or the reading will track the appliance rather than the room.
