Product details

Both current PS5 models, the Pro and the Slim Digital Edition, leave the factory without an optical drive. This is the part that adds one. It slides into the empty bay behind the side cover, and once fitted the console reads PS5 and PS4 game discs, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD.

Fitting takes about a minute and no tools: lift the side cover, push the drive into the bay, clip the cover back on. The first pairing needs an internet connection so the console can verify the drive.

Which consoles does this fit?

The PS5 Pro and the PS5 Digital Edition from the slim model group, both of which have an empty drive bay behind the side cover. It does not fit the original launch Digital Edition, which has no bay at all.

How do I install it?

Lay the console down, lift off the cover on the bare side, slide the drive into the bay until it seats, then refit the cover. No screwdriver and no cables. Connect to the internet and the console pairs the drive on the next start.

Does it play 4K Blu-ray movies?

Yes, along with standard Blu-ray and DVD. Once the drive is fitted the console behaves exactly like a disc-model PS5 for film playback.

Can I move the drive to a different console?

A drive is paired to one console at a time. Moving it means running the pairing step again on the new console, which needs an internet connection.

Does it need its own power supply?

No. The drive connects inside the bay and takes power and data from the console, so nothing extra plugs into the wall.
